What is the Third Person?

The First Person

In the first person I or we are the subject of the sentence.  It is used in very informal writing.

Singular I Me My / mine
Plural We Us Our / ours

 

I had a really great day!

The Second Person

YOU (as in someone else) is the subject of the sentence or someone’s name.  This is used in relatively informal writing.

Could you feed the dog please?

The Third Person

He, she, or it is the subject of the sentence or the name of an object/place.  This is used in more formal, objective writing.

It is going to snow on Thursday.
